(RNS) — Eve Rogers, a 12-year-old homeschooled girl from Enfield, Connecticut, was found dead in her bedroom last month. On April 3, her stepfather was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor in connection with her death. Eve’s death comes as Connecticut lawmakers consider a homeschool bill that would require families to notify their school district before withdrawing children for homeschooling. Under the proposal, districts would then check parents against the state’s Department of Children and Families abuse and neglect registry before approving homeschooling.
