Essential hiking gear doesn’t change overnight—but if you’re paying attention, changing trends are easy to spot. As an outdoor writer who’s gearing up for her own warm-weather adventures , I’ve got my finger on the pulse. Between an inbox swirling with brand news, seasonal gear launches, and real-life observations I’ve made on the trail, there are a few clear-cut “ins” for 2026—some of which I’m happy to upgrade to myself.  Based on my own observations and a ton of trial-and-error, these are the gear “outs” I’m officially ditching, and what I’m replacing them with instead.
