I'm looking to install a camera doorbell on dutch lap sidings. I'm not much of a DIYer but we just bought a new home and I've been tasked with this project.

After much research, it seems like generally drilling/screwing into siding is not recommended because it will affect the integrity of the siding to provide waterproofing to the exterior of the house. However, I have read that you can add silicone to the screw when screwing it in to provide a seal? Is that an actual long-lasting option or is this bad advice? I've also read that you should only screw into the siding and not the home since the house will expand, etc. Another option that was recommended was using VHB tape to avoid drilling and it will hold up. What is the "correct" of doing installing the doorbell to siding?

I would think there would be more definitive advice as to how to do this but I can't seem to get just one consistent answer. Thanks in advance.
