Pentagon reaches deal with leading AI companies for classified work

Seven of the country’s major artificial intelligence firms have agreed to deploying their AI systems in the Defense Department’s (DoD) classified networks, as the agency seeks to bolster the technology into military operations. OpenAI, Google, Nvidia, Reflection AI, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and SpaceX signed deals with the Pentagon to deploy their AI technology for “lawful operational use,” the Pentagon announced Friday . Anthropic, which the Pentagon designated as a supply chain risk earlier this year, was notably not included. The AI systems will be integrated into the DoD’s Impact Level 6 and Impact Level 7 networks to “streamline data synthesis, elevate situational understanding, and augment warfighter decision-making in complex operational environments,” the Pentagon said. Google , OpenAI and Elon Musk’s SpaceX — the owner of the AI firm xAI — previously signed deals with the Pentagon for the military’s classified networks.…
