Not planning to reinstate school bus stop

The Ministry of Education says it is not planning to reinstate an informal school bus stop at Kelvin Heights despite serious safety concerns. Instead, ministry school transport group manager James Meffan suggested if families had concerns about their children crossing Peninsula Rd to access their interim school bus at the Poplar Dr public bus stop they ‘‘may wish to consider other nearby existing public bus stops’’. One near the entrance to the Kelvin Heights golf course, and the other near the Lakeland Park Christian Camp were options. Worried Queenstown mum Claire Nichols, whose father was killed after being hit by a car while crossing a road, told Allied Media she had been raising safety concerns with a variety of stakeholders for the past year amid ministry-led changes to Whakatipu school bus services.…
