Sometimes, you just want to hear someone do down-the-middle hardcore music right . It's cool when people fuse hardcore with different genres, expanding the audience and the sonic language. It's cool when the music provides a vehicle of expression for larger-than-life characters. But sometimes, it's just as cool when a relatively anonymous hardcore band locks into a groove and sticks to the script, attacking all the expected genre tropes with passion and ferocity. That's what RISK do on their new album Forever . RISK, from the Boston area, have been around for more than a decade. Up until today, though, they only released one album, 2022's Monologues Of Misery . Today, they follow that one with their new LP Forever . (They're calling it an LP, anyway, though a seven-song, 17-minute affair could probably fit comfortably on a 10" EP.) Forever is exactly what I wanted it to be.
