Published 1:25 pm Wednesday, May 6, 2026 At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum needed some energy. The golden arches of a Bend McDonald’s were calling. Bynum’s aide pulled the car into the lot and Bynum got an order of french fries. Soon she was munching them in the back of the car. “They must have just changed their oil, because they are 10 out of 10,” she said, digging down into the bottom of the bag. Bynum had been up since 5 a.m. and was in the middle of a two-day visit to Deschutes County when she felt the need for a fast food pit stop. She had just been to the Deschutes Children’s Foundation and was on her way to tour an upcoming neighborhood in east Bend. Later that day, she presented the city of Bend with nearly $1 million for safe drinking water. “Access to clean drinking water is not only key to keeping Oregonians safe and healthy, but it enables our communities to grow, build more housing, and in turn, have a stronger economy with lower costs,” she said.…
