I’ve been replaying TOTK lately, and I feel, looking back, that with the storyline with time travel, they introduced it would have made more sense if both Zelda and Link were sent back in time to stop the complete resurrection/return of Ganondorf. I feel like this is how you make the players want to explore Hyrule again, instead of just exploring the whole place you just explored the game beforehand with minimal changes. I feel the sense of discovery you felt in BOTW could have very much been replicated this way because you would be excited to see certain areas in ancient times, certain beasts like the great skeletons in ancient times, if certain villages even existed, and some backstories on ancestors. I just felt like exploring TOTK just wasn't the same as the same sense of freedom and discovery you had in the previous game, and even with the said major changes, it didn't really do much to expand what it was before.…
