Two inmates died at High Desert State Prison, according to two news releases this week from the Nevada Department of Corrections. John A. Garcia, 21, was pronounced dead at the prison, which is 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas, on Friday, according to the news release. The Clark County coroner on Wednesday listed the death as a suicide. Garcia had been serving a sentence of up to 12 years for home invasion with a firearm and conspiracy to commit robbery with use of a deadly weapon on a victim over the age of 65, the department said. The sentence stems from a home invasion in east Las Vegas in 2025, according to online court records. Jonathan Latorre, 38, also died at the prison on Friday, the department said. Latorre was serving a sentence of up to 10.5 years for possession of a stolen credit card and attempted lewdness with a child under the age of 14, according to the department. No cause of death was listed for Latorre, who came to High Desert from Clark County in February.…
