Pueblo police shot and killed a suspect who reportedly brandished a gun as officers approached a van, according to a news release by the department. Officers responded to Drew Dix Park at 12:18 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a “fight with weapons,” police said. Three people fled in a van before officers arrived. Police obtained a description of the van and a passenger allegedly pulled out a gun as officers approached the vehicle on Carousel Lane next to the park. An officer fired their weapon, striking the suspect, although it is unclear whether the suspect was the passenger in possession of a weapon. The injured suspect received medical attention at the scene and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, the release states. The 10th Judicial District will conduct an investigation into the shooting and all involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, per the department’s policy.
