A man has been arrested after police tied him to a robbery at a northeast Colorado Springs store Monday night.

Eric Silver, 26, is facing an aggravated robbery charge for allegedly trying to steal $300 worth of merchandise from a store located in the 5200 block of North Academy Boulevard, according to a blotter entry from the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Police said Silver entered the store, crammed the merchandise into his backpack and tried to leave without paying. That is when a loss prevention officer tried to stop him, and the suspect took a stolen bat and allegedly swung it at the officer before fleeing in his car.

Silver and his car were later located, and he was arrested. Records show he is being held at the El Paso County jail on a $25,000 bond.

The merchandise was recovered, police said.
