I've been working on designing a fully-automatic turntable called the Statimatic STM-01, and I've finally gotten it to the point where it's moving the tonearm horizontally. Right now, it's only moving a predefined number of steps clockwise. The next goal is to track the tonearm's position with a hall effect sensor, and then introduce infrared record detection. I built a "clutch" to engage/disengage the tonearm for movement, which is how it's moving horizontally. The whole movement mechanism consists of 3 stepper motors: 1 for vertical movement, one for horizontal movement, and one to engage/disengage the clutch. The vertical mechanism (which is already finished) has its position being monitored by a 10k slide potentiometer. Later in the video, you can see the clutch engaging/disengaging the tonearm!…
