A man tried to assassinate the President of the United States at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The Daily Show , which had sent Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to work the red carpet earlier that evening, held the footage for a couple of days out of respect, then posted it anyway. And you know what? It’s pretty good! Shame about the normalization of political violence, but Triumph whips up some solid zingers at the expense of Marco Rubio and Cheryl Hines, while lobbing insults in the direction of RFK Jr., Pete Hegseth, Karoline Leavitt, and Kash Patel. It turned out to be a weirdly fitting tribute to a night that began as a free speech temperature check (the WHCA pointedly didn’t book a comedian this year, opting for a mentalist) and ended in conspiracy theories, a postponed dinner, and a wild breakdown of norms.
