I watch videos on the internet of people that travel. Most of the time they are native Spanish speakers, people from Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Venezuela etc. I have noticed something that intrigues me a lot. I hear Mexicans always say "la Ciudad de México." When I hear other Spanish speakers of other countries they always just say "Ciudad de México". Mexicans: "Vamos a la Ciudad de México." Other Spanish Speakers: "Vamos a Ciudad de México." Why do the other nationalities omit the article la? What is happening here? La Ciudad de México sounds much more proper. Omitting la sound informal. submitted by /u/One-Protection-1072 [link] [comments]
