John Tortorella has said he doesn’t need to babysit anyone. That it’s not imperative he overloads his Vegas Golden Knights team with information. That he understands the room and those veterans who patrol it. It has all paid off for the Knights over the last month. That is how long it has been — with the addition of a few days — since Tortorella took over as coach for the fired Bruce Cassidy. During that time, the Knights had a successful enough run that ended the regular season with a Pacific Division title and just captured a first-round playoff series against Utah in six games . That means a date with Anaheim has been secured. The best-of-seven series begins Monday night at T-Mobile Arena. It could have worked out the same with Cassidy in charge. No one really knows. No one can say either way. The schedule down the stretch wasn’t overly taxing. The series with Utah was an intense one, but it’s not as if Cassidy couldn’t have also pushed the correct buttons.
