Two local stories in the Seattle Times recently caught my attention and have me pondering: Where are the adults? At Adams Elementary in Ballard, parents are understandably up in arms that a new principal with skeletons in her closet has been assigned to the school by the district. An article (“ Adams parents still wary after meeting new principal ,” April 22, Ed Lab) about a recent community meeting at Adams made it clear that both sides — the parents and the superintendent, Ben Shuldiner — could have handled the situation much better . A friend with a child at Adams described the meeting as a “witch hunt” with a lot of parental shouting and very little listening. All that was missing was the torches. What a sad example for our children. It makes one wonder: Are the daily examples of boorishness in our nation’s capital desensitizing us and making it OK to be rude? My son attended (and thrived at) Adams from 2010 to 2016.…
