This might be a hot take (or maybe not) but let's dive right in Before everyone jumps on me, I'm not saying people at major festivals like EDC/Ultra don't like EDM. What I'm saying is that I think a huge percentage of attendees are there for the overall experience more than the music itself. Think about it. If these festivals suddenly had no giant installations, no fireworks, no kandi culture, no social media content opportunities, no crazy production, and was just a bunch of stages in a field with the exact same lineup, would attendance really be anywhere close to what it is now? Highly highly doubt it. I know people who can name every track in a DJ's set and people who couldn't tell you the difference between house, techno, trance, or dubstep.
