Now, as the immigration and advocacy program manager at the Latino Community Association (LCA), I will fight tooth and nail to keep it running. Unless you’re steeped in the world of immigration law, you may be asking yourself: what exactly is the R&A program, and why should I care? Housed in the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOI), the R&A program enables community-based organizations to offer immigration legal services through credentialed non-attorney staff known as accredited representatives. This small, low-cost program packs quite a punch, each year allowing representatives to serve tens of thousands of immigrant clients, many of whom would otherwise have no access to counsel.…
