A wheelchair-bound pedestrian died early Sunday after being hit by a bus in east Colorado Springs, according to law enforcement officials.

The collision took place just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of South Powers and Astrozon boulevards.

Investigators determined that the pedestrian, whose name has not yet been released, was on southbound Powers in the right-hand turn lane when the commercial bus hit the wheelchair. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries, police said.

Southbound Powers was closed for several hours while Major Crash Team investigators processed the scene. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors, officials said.
