A man hospitalized with injuries from a crash at the intersection of East Platte and North Wahsatch avenues on April 17 has died, Colorado Springs police announced Tuesday.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office informed police that the driver, 83-year-old Donald Leibfried, died April 23 at a local hospital from his injuries.
Officers determined Leibfried was struck by an eastbound vehicle while making an unprotected left turn from Platte Avenue onto southbound Wahsatch Avenue.
Speed is not considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to police. No charges have been filed.
There have been 17 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs this year, eight more than this time last year. The city has had 64 traffic fatalities in the past 12 months.
