Electrical helper I’m 34 and have been working in IT (help desk, network technician) for about 6 years. The pay in my area wasn’t great, so I decided to transition into electrical. I got accepted into a free program and completed NCCER Core, Electrical 1 and 2. I’m currently in Electrical 3. I recently started working as an electrical helper and have been in plants for about 4 months now. To be honest, I don’t enjoy it at all. The schedule has been much heavier than what I was originally told (working 13 on / 1 off instead of 5 10s), and the physical strain has been tough on my body. Now I’m working 4 10s and I’m still not satisfied. This has me rethinking careers. I went into this to gain experience while in school, but now I’m questioning if this environment is the right fit for me long term. I don’t have an issue with electrical itself, but I’m realizing plant work may not be for me.…
