We all knew this was coming, but Wednesday’s big media news still felt like a whopper. James Murdoch, the younger son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, is buying roughly half of Vox Media, including New York magazine, Vox’s website and Vox’s impressive podcast network. The Hollywood Reporter’s Alex Weprin explained , “The deal gives Murdoch control over the prominent magazine, which includes sub-brands like The Cut, Vulture, Intelligencer, The Strategist, Curbed, and Grub Street, as well as Vox.com, which originated the explainer news format, and produces popular shows like Today, Explained. The podcast network includes shows like ‘Pivot’ with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway, ‘Criminal,’ and ‘Where Should We Begin?’ with Esther Perel.” The deal — which Murdoch is buying through his company, Lupa Systems — is reportedly worth $300 million.…
