100 YEARS AGO For the week ending May 16, 1926 Grandstand for Women, Rules Elks Committee First call for seats in the grandstand at O’Donnell field at future Mid-Columbia league games, is given to the ladies the Elks; baseball committee has decided. Carrying out this policy, the committee announces that men will be charged 25 cents additional for seats in the grandstand, while ladies will be entitled to sit there without additional charge above the entrance admission. This does not mean that men who pay the additional charge and sit in the grandstand will be deemed lacking in chivalry; so far the number of women attending has not taxed the capacity of the protected seats, but the charge for men was decided upon in order definitely to designate the grandstand as a “ladies first” section.
