SEATTLE IS A SOCCER CITY. Wander to any turf field on any given night and you’re bound to find a ball and a group of people playing until daylight dissolves or the artificial lights go out. And it’s not just on the fields. Futsal players whip out their freestyle moves on the concrete courts at Judkins Park. Brass horns and a drum line march to the stadium from Pioneer Square before Sounders matches. Fans pack Ballard’s Rough & Tumble pub on Reign FC game days. Signs of just how much soccer pulses through this city are everywhere. Seattle continuously boasts some of the highest attendance numbers in Major League Soccer, and one of the greats, Megan Rapinoe, called the city home throughout her career. Is there something in the water? Or maybe the rain? Fans will don ponchos and raincoats to cheer on their teams. Players will put garbage bags over their bags on the sidelines. In Seattle, rain is merely a backdrop, not an obstacle to the game.…
