Heavy-hearted indie rock trio the Pines Of Rome started in Providence, Rhode Island in the late '90s. They released a couple of albums and played shows with like-minded acts like Songs: Ohia, Silkworm, and Bonnie "Prince" Billy before breaking up in the early '00s. During the pandemic, the former bandmates got back in touch and started writing music together, becoming a four-piece with the addition of bassist Steven Kimura. In 2023, they released their reunion album The Unstruck Bell . Now, they've got another record on the way. Seth Manchester recorded and mixed the Pines Of Rome's upcoming LP When You Are As Full As The Moon , which gets its title from an ancient zen Buddhist poem. Brian Jablonski plays pedal steel on a couple of songs, including the lead single "Kali's Tongue." It's a slow, serious six-minute meditation that seems like it's beamed straight from circa-1999 college radio, in the best way. I wonder if it's weird for these guys to play venues where the air isn't 60% cigarette smoke.…
