PORTLAND, Ore. — Thursday will be a day to remember for Aussie forward Alexandra Fowler. The former University of Portland forward filled the Liberty’s final developmental spot, signing a contract with New York on Thursday morning ahead of the team’s game against the Portland Fire. Fowler was at morning shootaround with the Liberty. It’s unclear whether she’ll suit up for the Liberty’s fourth game in a week. Fowler didn’t think she’d have a WNBA opportunity for a few years. Much to the 24-year-old’s surprise, she was invited to the Liberty’s training camp last month. Fowler played in both of the team’s preseason games. She had eight points, five rebounds, an assist and two steals in her debut with the team April 25. She went scoreless in the Liberty’s second preseason game while still managing to contribute two rebounds and three steals. Fowler was among the cuts May 6 to trim the team’s roster to the league-mandated 12-player limit. Fowler said she had been “just chilling” in New York in the time since.…
