HOUSTON — As they begin a key four-game series against their longtime division rival, the Mariners will be without another one of their best bullpen arms.
Left-hander José A. Ferrer was placed on the paternity list Monday, leaving the Mariners without their top two left-handers to begin a series against left-handed slugger Yordan Alvarez and the rest of the Astros lineup.
The Mariners are already without lefty Gabe Speier and right-hander Matt Brash, both of whom remain on the 15-day injured list.
Right-hander Domingo González was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take Ferrer’s place in the bullpen.
