Once again, the Federal Communications Commission, surely spurred on by President Donald Trump, is taking aim at a network over a joke. ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel made a crack about first lady Melania Trump on his show last week. He said she had the glow of an “expectant widow.” It was a silly joke, and honestly, not all that funny. But harmless, too, and not offensive unless you’re looking to be offended. And, of course, the Trumps were looking to be offended. Four days after the remark, they separately took to social media to call for Kimmel’s firing. And even though they likely know better, Donald and Melania Trump are trying to suggest that Kimmel was calling for, or at least celebrating the possibility of, violence against the president.
