I posted on here a while ago looking for advice on decolorizing an old 20" Colorsound 5 ride. I am happy to report that I've gone through with it and am even quite pleased with the results. All I used was acetone and a microfiber cloth to get the color off. I then followed that up with a bit of buffing with Zildjian cymbal polish. This cymbal had lived a rough life before I got it so most of the coating was worn off the top already. It also has some gnarly corrosion from being handled with sweaty hands. To begin with I kept the top untreated because I kind of liked the patina look, and the fact that there were some specks of color left alluding to its original form. Today I decided to treat the top as well and I'm incredibly glad I did. It opened up that tiny bit more and the sound went from being a bit bonky and underwhelming to sounding like a really sweet rock ride. Before and after clips will be in the comments.
