Wool Source , a New Zealand ingredients manufacturer developing industrial uses for wool, and KiwiFil , a New Zealand filament producer, have launched what they describe as the first commercial 3D printing filament to use a wool-based colourant. The product, called WoolyFil , uses Wool Source Pigments in place of conventional synthetic or fossil-fuel-derived colour. KiwiFil is selling the new filament in two colours, Green Marble and Riverstone, through its website, with more colours in development. Made using recycled PLA, the WoolyFil is available in 500 g and 1 kg spools with a diameter of 1.75 mm. According to the companies, it can be printed with a 0.4 mm nozzle at 180–200°C, with a bed temperature of 50–60°C. Wool Source says its pigment contains 92–98% biobased carbon content, indicating that most of that carbon comes from a renewable source.…
