Another year begins and that means it’s time to start our Game of the Year watch. Every year we round up the games that have resonated with us as we keep an eye out for this year’s best. 2026 has already had some certified bangers just in the first five months. We’ll be updating this list periodically as we head toward December, so watch this space. Pragmata Capcom’s “happy dad ” puzzle shooter game Pragmata feels truly refreshing despite also feeling old. Diana and Hugh’s daddy/daughter day in space takes simple shooting and puzzle mechanics and slaps them together into something that is far more complex and challenging than its individual parts would be on their own. The multitasking demands of hacking an enemy’s defenses before you can reasonably put a dent in it with your pistol make its often slow-paced action frantic, and it all helps illustrate the connection between its two leads as they synergize their skills to take down every obstacle in their path.…
