Tech has transformed the world of VFX but there will never replace the human touch, Walt Disney Animation Studios SVP of Production & Technology Nick Cannon told delegates at Web Summit Vancouver. “Visual effects and animation have been through huge transformative changes. The way we work today, in some ways, is very different from 10 or 20 years ago, but the fundamentals are still the same,” Cannon said. “Human creativity is immense and unique, and we’re never going to automate the taste and the imagination of the amazingly talented artists that we have in our studio.” The Disney exec was speaking at a Web Summit session looking at how Vancouver has become a huge hub for VFX in recent years, boosted by incentives that have attracted a large pool of talent and major studios.
