A hormonal condition impacting one in eight women globally has been given a new name , aiming to significantly improve patient care. The condition, previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome , will now be referred to as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome. Researchers and supporters of the change said the former name, often shortened to PCOS , is inaccurate. It oversimplified a complex hormonal or endocrine disorder to a misunderstanding about cysts and a focus on ovaries.
