After months of resistance, the House on Thursday passed the Senate-backed Department of Homeland Security funding bill, which funds all agencies inside DHS except immigration enforcement operations. The bill passed via voice vote. There was no recorded vote requested. President Donald Trump signed the bill Thursday afternoon, the White House confirmed, effectively ending the record-long DHS shutdown after 76 days. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin had warned extra funding to pay his department's employees would have "dried up" by the first week of May. The House took action just before Congress leaves for a weeklong recess. "This will relieve pressure from the Department of Homeland Security," Johnson told reporters after the vote.
