Asghar Farhadi made a grand return to Cannes Film Festival on Thursday night with the debut of “ Parallel Tales ,” his French-language drama starring Isabelle Huppert , earning a 5.5-minute standing ovation. The acclaimed Iranian auteur blew kisses to the crowd as the audience applauded for the 2-hour and 20-minute drama, which follows several nosy neighbors whose lives intertwine. As the clapping continued, Farhadi hugged his actors Catherine Deneuve and Virginie Efira. His lead Huppert, sporting a dramatic bright-red gown, stood beside him but remained politely smiling during the ovation. A two-time Oscar winner, Farhadi has not attended the festival since his last film, 2021’s “A Hero,” which won the grand prix. “Parallel Tales” follows Sylvie (Huppert), who spies on her neighbors across the street to gain inspiration for her new novel.…
