Police: Pedestrian in critical condition after hit-and-run while walking dog near downtown

A pedestrian is in critical condition after a hit-and-run near downtown early Saturday morning, police say. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the pedestrian, who was not identified, was walking his dog at the intersection of East Charleston Boulevard and North Mojave Road at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday morning. “The pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk; however, he was walking against the ‘walk, don’t walk’ traffic control signal,” the Metro release said. Surveillance video captured “an unknown dark colored SUV was traveling westbound on Charleston Boulevard, approaching Mojave Road. “A collision occurred when the pedestrian crossed the SUV’s path of travel. The front of the SUV collided with the right side of the pedestrian, projecting him forward to the west and onto the roadway,” according to the release. Metro said the driver of the SUV failed to remain at the collision scene and fled the area.…
