Lemalu brings the music

Jonathan Lemalu, one of Dunedin’s favourite musical sons, will return to Dunedin next week to present two special musical events. On Thursday, May 7, Lemalu will present a Masterclass, in conjunction with the Dunedin RSA Choir, from 7pm at St Patrick’s Basilica, 40 Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin. The event is open to the public. The Vocal Studies professor and Deputy Head of Vocal & Opera at the Royal College of Music, London, will speak about his teaching and will work with up-and-coming young Dunedin vocalists Teddy Finny-Waters (tenor), Kieran Kelly (baritone), Jesse Hanan (tenor) and Ripeka Potiki (alto). The singers will perform music from the 16th-20th centuries, with accompaniment from Dr Sandra Crawshaw (piano), and Lemalu will give feedback and insights. He will also perform himself. Tickets at the door, cash only, $20. Seating is limited. Celebrating Dunedin Voices Lemalu will also present the “Celebrating Dunedin Voices” concert on Monday, May 11, from 7pm at the Glenroy Auditorium.…
