I am again searching for a NAS OS that fits my needs better. The perfect OS didn’t exist, I know but trying to find the best fit. My selfhosting journey started several years ago with an old, unused PC and Unraid. Working pretty much out of the box. I wanted to have some more efficient und faster NAS, so I bought a TerraMaster F8 and continued with Unraid. Now, I am at a point where Unraid in combination with the TerraMaster NAS is for my to slow on SMB shares. I used an MiniPC to tinker around with other NAS OS, and now I have so much things I miss from the different OS. Unraid is so great with containers, but I never had to learn to write compose files and I have to wait until someone creates a Unraid template. From ZimaOS I love the client connection, no struggle to access your data remote, without setting up ZeroTier or Wireguard etc. and no trouble while using an other VPN. But while it is so easy, I am not totally trusting it as my main NAS with all my data.…
