Ute Pass library to launch hybrid system

The Ute Pass Library in Cascade expects to launch a hybrid system for broader access to materials in December. Speaking to around 50 library patrons May 11, Teona Schainidze-Krebs, chief executive officer of Pikes Peak Library District, talked about the new system. Open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, the library will be available for patrons to use its collections, computers, printers and retrieve books placed on hold. “Patrons will be monitored by the library’s Security Operations Center,” Shainidze-Krebs said, speaking to residents who packed Marcroft Hall in Chipita Park that day. There’s a catch, however. Patrons must first apply for access to the system, earn certification through training and receive a special badge for entry to the Ute Pass branch. The training, available a week or two before the hybrid launch, will be online but, if requested, a staff member can help the trainee, Schainidze-Krebs said.…
