One year out of the Army, Todd Baldwin took out 18 credit cards in 20 minutes and started Red Leg Brewing Co. with the intention of making and distributing the craft beer of the military.
His gamble continues to pay off.
Red Leg, which started in 2013 with three employees including Baldwin, now has ballooned to several dozen employees. And the brewery’s initial 3,900 square feet now looks like 2.5 acres on Colorado Springs’ northwest side.
Brewing began as a hobby for Baldwin, a field artillery officer who spent a decade in the military before deciding to pair his interest in suds with a desire for entrepreneurship.
Two years after opening the brewery, which was only the fifth or sixth in the city at the time, Red Leg started packaging its beer and selling it throughout El Paso County. Nearly a decade ago, the brewery began offering its beer to local military bases and then expanded to military bases in Oklahoma and Texas.
