ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 27, 2026) — The Poynter Institute today announced the 2026 cohort of its Transforming Crime Coverage program, an intensive training and coaching experience designed to help newsrooms fundamentally rethink how they report on crime, public safety and the communities they serve. Running from April 29 through June 24, the program brings together 31 newsroom teams for six online sessions, along with three additional coaching sessions. Together, the experience equips journalists with the tools, frameworks and editorial support needed to move beyond reactive crime coverage and implement lasting newsroom change.
