Rant and Rave: Reader fed up with filler phrases

May 14, 2026 at 6:00 am Updated May 14, 2026 at 6:00 am RANT to filler phrases. Can people please stop using them when they speak? Things like “You know,” “You hear me” and “Right?” at the end of nearly every sentence. You don’t do this when you write, do you? Why would you do this when you speak? RAVE to my rider with Sound Generations. She has a tough disease and is clinically depressed, but despite this, she volunteers at her local elementary school to help a severely dyslexic boy. As she was telling the story, she and I both had tears in our eyes. It’s the activity that keeps her going, and it’s stories like hers that keep me driving seniors to medical appointments. She is a hero! RAVE to the Seattle Department of Transportation for clearing the west sidewalk on Aurora by Woodland Park. It looks beautiful! Thank you.
