Luis Gil hits IL, gets shut down from throwing with shoulder injury in Yankees concern

MILWAUKEE — The chances of Luis Gil getting back to the big leagues to impact the Yankees in the short term were already fairly slim. Now they are zero, at least for the next six weeks or so. Gil landed on the injured list at Triple-A on Friday with right shoulder inflammation and will be shut down from throwing for at least three weeks, manager Aaron Boone said. The time spent not throwing for pitchers is typically equal to the time it takes to build back up, meaning it could be at least six weeks until Gil returns to game action. The former American League Rookie of the Year was optioned back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on April 26 after making four starts and posting a 6.05 ERA. But Boone indicated that this shoulder issue did not have a hand in Gil’s poor results. Luis Gil has landed on the IL in Triple-A.
