When I moved to the Northeast a year ago, I knew I’d probably be in for some indoor training come winter time. And as a certified treadmill hater , let’s just say I wasn’t exactly thrilled about it. (Let’s be honest, who wants to run toward absolutely nowhere?) So when the first snow storm came through in January and made running outside pretty treacherous, I sucked it up and headed to the treadmill . But then more snow came—and morning temperatures dipped into the single digits. By the end of the month, I felt like I was being held prisoner indoors, as I had to switch my typical sunrise runs outdoors for treadmill workouts during my lunch breaks. Then, one Saturday morning long run changed everything. With ice covering the local trails and sidewalks, I found myself hopping onto the treadmill belt yet again—but that time, I knew I needed a new game so I wouldn’t suffer for 80-plus minutes.…
