Advice as a new competitor

Hi there fellow Taekwondo practitioners. I am hoping to get some advice about competing as a new competitor. I am a First Dan in a World Taekwondo Dojang, but I never really competed consistently and always focused more on just working my way through the belt ranks for personal achievement. Now that I have recently been promoted to First Dan however, I have a renewed interest in competing in both Poomsae and Sparring , however I fear that I am severely underdeveloped as a result of my lack of competition earlier on. My Dojang also doesn’t get to practice sparring as much as I’d like us to, because we are very limited in numbers and we are all of very different weight classes and ranks (I’m the only black belt student). Is there anything I should know before I begin taking competition more seriously? Is there any exercises you guys recommend for developing endurance and strength in sparring? Any kicking drills you guys recommend? Please feel free to let me know, and thank you for your valuable input.…
