How do photocell sensors for streetlights actually work and also if they are reliable or not? Our colony has a few pathway lights and the watchman has to manually switch them on at night and off in the morning. And he forgets sometimes due to which the lights run all day or stay off all at night. I have heard from someone that the solution for this is a "photocell sensor" or "LDR sensor" that can automates this. But I have some questions regarding to it as : 1. How do they actually detect day vs night or is it just a light-sensitive component? 2. Do they need to be replaced periodically or do they last for years? 3. How does monsoon and dust affect them? We are in Noida, so both are relevant. 4. Do they work with any light fitting or do they need to be matched to specific wattages? I found some on Amazon but the reviews are useless as half of them seem fake and the other half have bad reviews as they stopped working in 3 months.…
