The slow reveal leading up to the long-awaited unveiling of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art continues. At San Diego’s Comic-Con in 2025, the Star Wars filmmaker offered up images and an ethos for what he called “a temple to the people’s art.” Then, late last year, the museum finally settled on an opening date: September 22, 2026. Now, the museum in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, has provided an overview of its inaugural exhibitions. The sleek and futuristic building, designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects , may look like a spaceship, but as promised, it is far more than a repository for George Lucas ’s personal trove of Star Wars treasures. Across 30-odd galleries and through more than 1,200 objects, the museum attempts to live up to its name by tracing the full evolution of humanity’s image-based storytelling culture.
