I learned so much from him. He still took fun seriously even in his 80s. He had the same sense of humour. But his body couldn’t keep up. He kept telling me to take my health seriously. If you expect to live into your 70s, get your body ready for all those decades ahead, he used to say. The body you care for now is the home you will live in later. You don’t wake up healthy at 70. It’s a work in progress, starting now. Most people assume the surprise of our 60s, 70s, and 80s will be the physical decline. But there’s more to ageing than physical health. Talk to someone in their 70s, and they won’t describe themselves as “old” in their head.…
