My Mom Wants to Put Her New House in My and My Brother's Names Location: Allegheny County, Pennsylvania My mom is moving and she wants to put her new home in my & my brother's name. This seems very weird and like a bad idea to me. My grandfather passed recently, and she's planning on moving into his place. She's selling the house she lives in currently and is going to buy out her brothers' portions of the inheritance. She has no immediate plans to move, but it's going to be in the next year or so. When she was talking about it the other day, she mentioned that she wanted to put the house in our names instead of hers. She said it would be to avoid inheritance tax in the future, when the house eventually becomes ours. She said she would be paying for everything while she lives there. That's a bad idea, right? Both my brother and I are still pretty young, me 27 & bro 25, and neither of us own our own homes. Won't we have to pay property taxes on it, even if we don't live there?…
