Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer , long rumored as a possible Democratic presidential candidate, said on Thursday she will not make a bid for the White House in 2028 —but then walked that statement back soon after. “I think there will be a robust group of people running for President,” the Democratic governor told WJBK-TV . “I will not be one of them in 2028.” But hours later, she said she wanted to “correct the record.” She clarified that she had said that she was “not making plans” but didn’t rule out the possibility of running in 2028. “I never thought I would run for governor, so I guess I should know better,” Whitmer said . “Never say never.” She went on to say that she didn’t want “any distractions” as she focuses on her governorship, adding, “I find all this talk about my future such a distraction from what I want to get done today.” “At this juncture, I’ve got nothing to announce,” she continued.…
